Monster Report Finds 54% of US Workers Accept Pay Cuts

Monster reports that 54% of U.S. workers would accept pay cuts to maintain job security amid AI anxiety and economic uncertainty.

A 2026 Job Security Report from Monster reveals that 54% of U.S. workers would accept a pay cut to maintain their employment. The survey of 1,020 employees indicates a significant shift in professional priorities, moving away from the work-life balance preferences seen in 2024 toward a primary focus on job stability.

Economic uncertainty, corporate restructuring, and anxiety regarding artificial intelligence are the primary drivers of this trend. Among those willing to take a salary reduction, 26% would accept a cut of up to 5%, while 28% would accept a reduction of 5% or more. Beyond base pay, 61% of respondents are willing to sacrifice other benefits to keep their jobs, including bonuses, workplace flexibility, and remote work options.

Career expert Vicki Salemi notes that predictability and stability now outweigh the promise of higher earnings for many professionals. This sentiment marks a reversal from previous years when workers were more likely to prioritize flexibility and balance over absolute job security.
