The Income Tax Department reported that India's net direct tax collections rose 23.09% to ₹8.11 trillion between April 1 and August 10, 2026. Gross collections increased 19.75% to ₹9.55 trillion, while tax refunds grew at a slower rate of 3.79% to ₹1.43 trillion.
Growth was primarily driven by a 23.44% increase in net non-corporate taxes, which reached ₹5.07 trillion, and a 51.3% surge in Securities Transaction Tax collections to ₹33,823.74 crore. Net corporate tax collections also rose 19.83% to ₹2.70 trillion.
These figures represent nearly one-third of the Government of India's full-year direct tax target of ₹26.97 trillion for FY27. This annual target marks a 15% increase over the ₹23.40 trillion collected during FY26.
