American Priorities Super PAC Spends $5.6 Million in Democratic Primaries

American Priorities has spent over $5.6 million to support Democratic candidates critical of Israel and the influence of AIPAC in House primaries.

American Priorities, a super PAC launched six months ago, has spent at least $5.6 million to support House Democratic candidates critical of Israel and the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). The group has funded successful campaigns for democratic socialists Darializa Avila Chevalier and Claire Valdez in New York, Melat Kiros in Colorado, Adam Hamawy in New Jersey, and Chris Rabb in Philadelphia.

While the group's spending is lower than that of the United Democracy Project, the AIPAC-affiliated super PAC that has spent at least $34 million this cycle, American Priorities has shifted the competitive landscape by aggressively targeting specific races. The PAC is supported by donors including Omer Hassan, Mohammad Waqas Javed, and Hussein Sam Mahrouq, the latter of whom contributed $625,000.

Critics and some Democratic candidates have questioned the group's reliance on large donations and the political backgrounds of its funders. The organization operates in alignment with progressive groups like Justice Democrats to back candidates who challenge traditional pro-Israel lobbying influence in the Democratic primary process.
