Governor Biodun Oyebanji Defends Ekiti Election Victory in Tribunal
Governor Biodun Oyebanji submitted six legal issues to the Election Petition Tribunal to defend his June 20 governorship victory against opposition challenges.
Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has submitted six issues for determination to the Election Petition Tribunal to defend his victory in the June 20 governorship election. Representing the All Progressives Congress, Oyebanji was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission with 319,224 votes.
The tribunal, chaired by Justice Abubakar Kutigi in Ado Ekiti, is currently hearing petitions filed by the Social Democratic Party and the Action Alliance. A previous petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party candidate has been withdrawn.
Oyebanji's legal team, led by Dr. Onyechi Ikpeazu, argues that the remaining petitions are incompetent. The defense claims the filings violate the Electoral Act 2026 and fail to join the All Progressives Congress as a necessary party. The Social Democratic Party is scheduled to open its case and call witnesses before the tribunal on Monday.
