Sudhir Sitapati Resigns as Godrej Consumer Products CEO
Sudhir Sitapati resigned as CEO of Godrej Consumer Products Ltd., triggering a 10.6% share price drop and the appointment of Aasif Malbari as his successor.
Sudhir Sitapati resigned as Chief Executive Officer of Godrej Consumer Products Ltd. with immediate effect on August 12, 2026. The departure surprised investors, as Sitapati had been reappointed to a five-year term only one week earlier. In his resignation letter, Sitapati stated that the tasks he had set for himself were complete, noting a 10% total shareholder return since May 2021.
Aasif Malbari, the company's Chief Financial Officer, assumed the CEO role effective August 12. The market reacted sharply to the leadership change, with shares of the Indian soap and mosquito-repellent manufacturer dropping as much as 10.6%, the steepest decline since December 2024.
Executive Chairperson Nisaba Godrej stated that while the company's strategic direction remains strong, the new leadership must prioritize agility in decision-making and return core categories to growth. She emphasized that the company needs to move from good to great through a focus on execution. This transition follows a quarterly report showing a 12% rise in net income to 5.05 billion rupees, a figure that failed to meet analyst estimates.
