Lithuania Promotes India-EU Free Trade Agreement for December Signing
Lithuanian Ambassador Diana Mickevičienė advocates for the India-EU Free Trade Agreement to expand exports in lasers, fintech, and electronics.
Lithuanian Ambassador to India Diana Mickevičienė characterized the upcoming India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA) as a game changer for the trade environment between the two regions. The agreement is expected to be signed in December, and Lithuania intends to promote its implementation during its presidency of the EU Council from January to June 2027.
Lithuanian firms are targeting growth in electronics, lasers, fintech, chemicals, and plastics. Mickevičienė described Lithuania as a small technology superpower and proposed that joint technology development between India and Europe could create scalable global solutions. Specific priorities include smart manufacturing using short-pulse lasers and improving financial connectivity through remittance services.
Beyond the FTA, the ambassador emphasized the necessity of an India-EU investment protection and promotion framework. She stated that such a framework is required to ensure predictable conditions for European investors operating within the Indian market.
