Ontario Awards Greater Sudbury $1.3 Million for Housing Success

The Government of Ontario awarded the City of Greater Sudbury nearly $1.3 million after the city exceeded its 2025 housing targets.

The Government of Ontario awarded the City of Greater Sudbury nearly $1.3 million through the third round of the Building Faster Fund. The funding serves as a reward for the city breaking ground on 433 new homes in 2025, a figure that exceeded its provincially designated annual housing target by 14 per cent.

Established in August 2023 as a three-year program with a total value of up to $1.2 billion, the Building Faster Fund provides financial incentives to municipalities that achieve at least 80 per cent of their housing goals. Greater Sudbury will use these funds for community infrastructure to support further economic development and housing growth.

Associate Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Graydon Smith credited the city's leadership in removing barriers to home building. Mayor Paul Lefebvre stated that unlocking more housing remains a key priority for city council and thanked the provincial government for its continued partnership.
