China Rejects Western Criticism of Hong Kong Subversion Convictions

The Government of China demanded the US and EU stop interfering in Hong Kong after the High Court convicted leaders of the Hong Kong Alliance.

The Government of China demanded that the United States, the European Union, and other international parties cease political manipulation and interference in the internal affairs of Hong Kong. The demand follows international criticism of the Hong Kong High Court's decision to convict the Hong Kong Alliance and its former leaders—Lee Cheuk-yan, Ho Chun-yan, and Chow Hang-tung—for inciting subversion.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian defended the convictions as legitimate and lawful, asserting that the Hong Kong Alliance sought to subvert state power. China has lodged serious protests against what it describes as malicious smears against the region's judicial system. The central government maintains its support for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in its efforts to combat activities that endanger national security.
