Larry Ellison Net Worth Drops $159 Billion as Oracle Shares Fall
Larry Ellison lost nearly half his net worth over the past year following a sharp decline in Oracle shares and a $20 billion capital raise.
The net worth of Larry Ellison fell by $159 billion, or 49.2%, over the past year, causing his rank to drop to ninth on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. This decline follows a surge in 2025 that briefly made the Oracle cofounder the wealthiest person in the world.
The downturn is primarily driven by a 39% drop in Oracle shares since the start of 2026. On Monday, the stock fell nearly 9% after Oracle announced plans to raise $20 billion through the issuance of new shares and bonds. Investors expressed concern regarding the scale of the capital raise, the potential dilution of existing stakes, and the high costs of constructing data centers to support AI contracts.
To fund this AI infrastructure spending, Oracle has increased its debt and initiated a new round of layoffs in mid-September.
