Over 6,000 NDC Members Defect to PDP in Enugu State

More than 6,000 members of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State over the weekend. Led by Godwin Obasi, the defectors represented all 17 local government areas and 260 wards in the state. The group cited the NDC's selection of unpopular candidates for elective positions as the primary reason for their departure ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Uche Nnaji, the PDP governorship candidate in Enugu, welcomed the new members and used the occasion to criticize the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration under Governor Peter Mbah. Nnaji alleged that the state government has failed to pay pensions and gratuities while implementing suffocating taxes that allegedly target newborns and dead bodies. He further claimed the current administration received more federal funding in three years than the three previous governors combined over 24 years, yet failed to produce tangible development.

During the event, PDP Chairman Vitus Okechi promised the defectors equal rights and the opportunity to participate fully in party activities.
