Candidate qualifying processes began on August 5, 2026, for various local and federal offices in Louisiana and California ahead of the November 3 elections. In Louisiana, candidates for congressional seats filed at the State Archives building in Baton Rouge, with contests impacted by court-ordered redistricting. High-profile races include the 3rd and 4th Congressional Districts, featuring incumbents Clay Higgins and Mike Johnson. The 6th Congressional District has emerged as a key battleground after incumbent Cleo Fields announced he would not seek reelection, leading State Senator Rick Edmonds to switch his bid from District 5 to District 6.

Other Louisiana contests include a U.S. Senate runoff between Republican Julia Letlow and Democrat Jamie Davis, as well as the Alexandria mayoral race. Voter registration for these contests closes on October 13, with early voting set for October 20-27.
