Lauren Boebert Challenges Results in Close Colorado House Race
Republican Representative Lauren Boebert is trailing Democratic challenger Eileen Laubacher in Colorado's 4th District and has launched an investigation into unusual voting patterns.
Democratic challenger Eileen Laubacher currently leads Republican Representative Lauren Boebert in the race for Colorado's 4th Congressional District. As of November 7, 2026, Laubacher holds a lead of 0.83 percentage points, or 3,172 votes, with 97 percent of ballots reported.
Boebert's campaign attorney, Scott Gessler, announced an investigation into very unusual voting patterns and stated the campaign expects the election to head to a recount. Gessler noted that ballot returns have trended in Boebert's direction since election night, consistently lowering the margin. However, the current gap exceeds the 0.5 percent threshold required for an automatic recount under Colorado law.
Boebert attributed broader Republican losses to voter frustration over the pursuit of endless wars, specifically citing the conflict in Iran. The race follows a campaign marked by Boebert's 2024 district switch and ethics complaints regarding her relationships with staffers.
While the campaign pushes for every legal vote to be counted, it recently sent a fundraising email that mischaracterized the state's mandatory recount law by failing to specify that the 0.5 percent margin is calculated based on the leading candidate's total vote count.
