Saudi Arabia to Build First Non-US Energy Recovery Plant

The Saudi Water Authority announced plans to launch the world's first energy recovery device (ERD) manufacturing facility located outside the United States. Established by Energy Recovery, the plant is scheduled to begin production in Saudi Arabia during the first quarter of 2027.

The facility will feature an annual capacity of 2,000 units. The initiative aims for local self-sufficiency to meet an estimated domestic demand of 1,200 units, while exporting 40 percent of its production to markets in Asia, Africa, and the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Investment, the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, and the Local Content and Government Procurement Authority, the project is designed to establish Saudi Arabia as a regional hub for water technology. Economic projections suggest the facility will create over 50 direct jobs and contribute SAR 137 million to the Saudi GDP by 2033.
