Russian Tu-95 Strategic Bomber Crashes in Amur Region
A Russian Tu-95 strategic bomber crashed during a training flight in the Amur region, killing six crew members and injuring at least one other.
A Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation Tu-95MS strategic bomber crashed and exploded in an uninhabited area of the Amur region on September 29, 2026. The aircraft, operated by the 6952nd Guards Sevastopol-Berlin Red Banner Air Base of the Ukrainka Air Group, crashed shortly after takeoff during a training flight.
The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed that six crew members died in the accident. Reports on survivors vary, with one source stating one person was hospitalized and another indicating two survivors were treated. The nuclear-capable bomber was not carrying ammunition at the time of the crash.
An Aerospace Forces commission has been dispatched to the site to investigate the cause. While the Ministry of Defense identified the aircraft as a Tu-95, the Baza Telegram channel claimed it was a Tu-154 and suggested an onboard fuel explosion. Additionally, the AMK Mapping Telegram channel alleged that three of the four engines failed simultaneously, suggesting the possibility of sabotage.
