Uber Wins Bid to Dismiss £340 Million UK Lawsuits
Uber successfully petitioned a UK court to dismiss two lawsuits worth £340 million brought by London black cab drivers over licensing disputes.
Uber Technologies Inc. won a bid on Monday to dismiss two linked lawsuits in the United Kingdom valued at approximately £340 million. The legal action was brought by thousands of London black cab drivers and two former private hire companies.
The claimants alleged that the ride-hailing company provided misleading and inaccurate information to Transport for London to secure a private hire vehicle operating licence in the British capital. Uber denied these allegations throughout the proceedings.
The High Court of Justice ruled in favor of the company, accepting the argument that the lawsuits were filed after the six-year limitation period for such claims had expired. The court subsequently threw out the cases.
