Singapore and Malaysia Renew Energy Cooperation Agreement

The Energy Market Authority of Singapore and the Energy Commission of Malaysia renewed a memorandum of understanding to boost renewable electricity trade and regional power interconnectivity.

The Energy Market Authority of Singapore and the Energy Commission of Malaysia renewed a memorandum of understanding on October 26, 2026, to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the energy sector. Signed during the 19th Singapore International Energy Week, the agreement focuses on cross-border electricity trading, regional power interconnectivity, and the integration of renewable energy.

The framework covers technical cooperation and regulatory exchanges regarding piped gas systems, wholesale and retail electricity markets, Renewable Energy Certificates, and solar and energy storage systems. This renewal follows an initial agreement signed in 2020 and coincides with the 25th anniversaries of both regulatory agencies.

The cooperation aims to facilitate increased renewable electricity trade and support regional power system interconnectivity, following recent conditional approvals for electricity imports from Johor to Singapore.
