Former FBI Agents Sue Kash Patel Over Political Purge
Former FBI agents filed a class-action lawsuit against Director Kash Patel and Attorney General Pam Bondi, alleging they were fired for investigating Donald Trump.
Several former FBI agents filed federal lawsuits in Washington, D.C., alleging they were terminated in political retaliation for their work on Arctic Frost, an investigation into Kash Patel's predecessor's target, President Donald Trump, and his efforts to overturn the 2020 election. Initial filings in March 2026 by two anonymous agents claimed they were fired in late 2025 shortly after Senator Chuck Grassley released documents exposing their identities.
By March 31, the legal action expanded into a class-action lawsuit led by former agents Jamie Garman, Blaire Toleman, and Michelle Ball. The plaintiffs allege a retribution campaign orchestrated by Patel and Attorney General Pam Bondi, seeking to represent a class of over 50 employees terminated since January 20, 2025. They argue the firings violated their First and Fifth Amendment rights to free speech and due process, describing the purge as a profound injustice based on a false perception of political bias.
Kash Patel has defended the dismissals during House committee testimony, stating he rejects the notion that those he characterizes as weaponizing law enforcement are the only ones capable of performing the agency's mission. While the FBI previously cited a lack of impartiality in termination letters, the FBI Agents Association condemned the moves as erratic and arbitrary retribution. The lawsuits seek the reinstatement of the ousted agents.
