AMD Captures Over 30% of x86 Client CPU Market

AMD increased its x86 client CPU market share to 30.3% in the second quarter of 2026, driven by strong Ryzen Pro sales.

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) captured 30.3% of the x86 client CPU market in the second quarter of 2026, marking the first time the company has exceeded the 30% threshold. According to Mercury Research, this represents a steady climb from 29.6% in the first quarter and 23.9% during the same period in 2025. Intel held the remaining 69.7% of the market.

AMD's client business generated $3.1 billion in the second quarter, a 23% year-over-year increase. This growth was primarily driven by Ryzen Pro sales, which grew by more than 50%. CEO Lisa Su reported that first-half performance was very strong, noting that the market held up better than expected despite anticipated declines in the second half of the year.

Market analysts provided a nuanced view of the growth. Mercury Research noted that the total market for x86 and ARM CPUs grew by more than 10% sequentially. However, Jon Peddie Research cautioned that some of the revenue and unit growth reflects OEM inventory rebuilding rather than pure demand strength. Additionally, rising prices for DRAM and SSDs have weakened retail demand within the DIY market.
