China May Allow Firms to Buy Nvidia RTX PRO 5500 Chips

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China has signaled it may allow domestic companies to purchase Nvidia RTX PRO 5500 chips designed for high-end professional computers. The ministry recently requested that companies, including ByteDance and Alibaba Group, report their purchase plans for the hardware.

Industry executives expect this specific chip model to bypass current United States export restrictions. A spokesperson for Nvidia Corporation stated that U.S. firms continue to be restricted by a combination of outdated U.S. export controls and China's own limits on imports.

Neither Alibaba Group nor ByteDance responded to requests for comment regarding the potential acquisitions.
