Democrats Win Michigan Senate and Governor Races
Democratic candidates Abdul El-Sayed and Jocelyn Benson won key state races as Republicans John Moolenaar and Jack Bergman secured House re-elections in Michigan.
Democratic candidates secured major victories in Michigan during the November 3, 2026, midterm elections. Abdul El-Sayed was called as the winner for the U.S. Senate seat, and Jocelyn Benson won the race for Governor, succeeding the term-limited Gretchen Whitmer.
Republicans maintained success in the U.S. House of Representatives. Representative John Moolenaar won re-election to Michigan’s 2nd Congressional District, defeating Democratic challenger Ben Ambrose and candidates from the Green and Natural Law parties. Moolenaar pledged to focus on reducing taxes, securing national borders, and holding the Chinese Communist Party accountable. Republican incumbent Jack Bergman also won re-election to Michigan’s First Congressional District.
Michigan voters also decided on two ballot measures. They approved Proposal Two, which expands political communication disclosure laws and prohibits campaign contributions from certain government contractors and regulated utilities. Voters rejected Proposal One, which would have convened a constitutional convention in 2027. Races for Attorney General and Secretary of State remained too close to call as of November 4.
