Keith Ellison Wins Re-election as Minnesota Attorney General

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison secured a third term in office, defeating Republican challenger Ron Schutz with 55% of the vote.

Keith Ellison won re-election as Minnesota Attorney General on Tuesday, securing a third term in office. With approximately 94% of precincts reporting as of midnight Wednesday morning, Ellison held a 55% lead over Republican challenger Ron Schutz, who received 44.8% of the vote.

Ellison campaigned on his record of prosecuting more than 350 fraud cases and his history of filing legal challenges against the federal government. These challenges focused on immigration activities, tariffs, and the withholding of federal funds.

Ron Schutz centered his campaign on criticisms of Ellison's prosecutorial methods, specifically arguing that the incumbent relied too heavily on plea bargains and failed to jail enough offenders. Schutz also highlighted his own willingness to confront federal officials, pointing to his previous demands for investigations into the deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti during immigration enforcement actions.
