Alphabet Prepares Q3 Earnings Amid Massive AI Infrastructure Spend
Alphabet Inc. reports third-quarter earnings on October 28, with investors focusing on Google Cloud growth and a $200 billion investment in AI infrastructure.
Alphabet Inc. will report its third-quarter 2026 financial results after the market closes on October 28. Market attention is centered on the performance of Google Cloud, which saw revenue growth accelerate from 48% in the fourth quarter of 2025 to 82% in the second quarter of 2026, reaching over $24 billion. This growth outpaces competitors Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services.
To support AI workloads and the expansion of Gemini large language models, the company is investing between $195 billion and $205 billion in capital expenditures for 2026, primarily for data centers and servers. In the second quarter alone, Alphabet spent $44 billion, allocating 60% to servers and 40% to data centers and networking. Alphabet has also begun selling its custom-designed Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) to external clients, though the majority of this revenue is expected in 2027.
Despite strong compute demand, the company faces financial and regulatory headwinds. Accelerating AI investments have pushed free cash flow into negative territory and increased leverage. Additionally, Alphabet is navigating antitrust proceedings and data sharing obligations in Europe. Competition is intensifying as Meta Platforms' Muse agent and SpaceX Super Intelligence's Grok Bot gain traction in consumer and enterprise markets. Analysts suggest that while triple-digit revenue growth for Google Cloud could boost the stock price, a contraction in cloud margins exceeding 110 basis points may create downward pressure.
