Ghana DVLA Earns GH¢27 Million From Digital Registration Stickers

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority generated over GH¢27 million from temporary vehicle registration stickers through 2026 after replacing aluminium plates with digital labels.

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) of Ghana generated over GH¢27 million from temporary vehicle registration stickers between January and September 2026. This figure already surpasses the GH¢22 million earned during the entirety of 2025 and the GH¢15 million collected in 2024.

Chief Executive Officer Julius Neequaye Kotey attributed the growth to a reform that replaced traditional aluminium dealer plates with tamper-proof digital stickers at ports of entry. The new system integrates physical security labels with digital authentication tools to eliminate fraud and revenue leakages. Under this mandate, all imported vehicles must obtain these stickers before leaving the port to ensure government collection and accountability.

The operational impact of the shift is reflected in registration volumes. The number of cleared vehicles rose from a monthly average of under 1,900 before April 2025 to over 15,000 by October 2025. Total issuance grew from 76,312 plates in 2024 to 111,001 stickers in 2025, reaching approximately 134,000 stickers in the first nine months of 2026.
