West Perth Sets Nomination Deadline for 2026 Municipal Election
The municipality of West Perth established an August 21 nomination deadline for its 2026 elections following Mayor Walter McKenzie's decision not to seek re-election.
The Government of West Perth has established a nomination deadline of Friday, August 21, 2026, at 2 p.m. for the upcoming municipal elections. The mayoral race is open after Mayor Walter McKenzie announced he will not seek re-election. Deputy Mayor W. Dean Trentowsky and former deputy mayor Doug Eidt are currently contesting the mayoral seat.
Other candidates have entered the race for deputy mayor, including Nicholas Vink, while several individuals are seeking council seats in the Mitchell, Logan, Hibbert, and Fullarton wards. Candidates for trustee positions on the French-language, Huron Perth Catholic District, and Avon Maitland District school boards have also filed. To qualify, all candidates must secure endorsements from at least 25 eligible voters.
Advance voting is scheduled for October 19 through October 25, leading up to the general election day on Monday, October 26, 2026.
