Washington Beef Denies Rumors of Toppenish Plant Closure
Washington Beef confirmed its Toppenish facility remains open after false rumors of a shutdown sparked concerns about the Yakima Valley agricultural industry.
Washington Beef confirmed that its food processing facility in Toppenish is remaining open, dismissing false rumors that the plant was shutting down. The company issued the clarification after misinformation sparked online concern regarding the stability of the Yakima Valley agricultural industry and led to political accusations of illegal practices.
Investigation into the source of the confusion suggests the rumors stemmed from the late July closure of a different food manufacturer. No Meat Factory Inc., a Canadian plant-based food company, ceased operations at its facility in Stanwood, Washington, resulting in more than 100 layoffs. The distinct nature of the two companies and their locations did not prevent the misinformation from spreading to the Toppenish site.
