Iowa Gubernatorial Candidates Pledge First-Year Policy Goals
Democratic nominee Rob Sand and Republican nominee Zach Lahn have released specific policy guarantees they aim to achieve within their first year as governor.
Rob Sand, the Democratic nominee and current State Auditor, pledged to implement remote work options for state employees where possible and to begin reversing the 2016 privatization of Medicaid services.
Republican nominee Zach Lahn guaranteed a push to establish the Iowa’s Water and Land Legacy trust fund. Approved by voters in 2010 through a sales tax increase, the fund is designed to support soil preservation, water quality, wildlife habitat, and recreational development. State lawmakers have previously refused to provide the necessary funding for the initiative.
