Topa Olusegun Peter Denies Fraudulent 2027 Governorship Bid
PDP chieftain Topa Olusegun Peter denies reports of a 2027 governorship bid and accuses APC officials of identity fraud in Ogun State.
PDP chieftain and traditional ruler Topa Olusegun Peter denied reports identifying him as a governorship aspirant for the 2027 election during a press briefing in Abeokuta on October 17, 2026. Peter stated he never purchased nomination forms, signed intention documents, or authorized anyone to act on his behalf.
The denial follows a demand by lawyer Anderson Asemota of Neplus Ultra Attorneys, who gave the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) 48 hours to explain why Peter's name was omitted from the final candidate list published on October 10, 2026. Peter disowned the petition and claimed he has never met or spoken with Asemota.
Peter alleges the situation is a result of identity fraud orchestrated by Ramoni Adebolu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman in Imeko-Afon Local Government, and other APC officials. He claims the fraud occurred after he rejected a political offer from the APC. Ramoni Adebolu denied involvement in the newspaper reports, stating he only attempted to convince Peter to defect from the PDP to the APC.
Peter reaffirmed his loyalty to the PDP, noting that Ladi Adebutu had already emerged as the party's sole candidate during primaries on May 24, 2026. He urged INEC to investigate the unauthorized use of his identity and called on security agencies to ensure the safety of his family.
