Anthropic Launches In-Country Claude AI Inference in India

Anthropic is deploying in-country inference for Claude AI models via Amazon Bedrock to enable data localization for India's highly regulated sectors.

Anthropic announced that its Claude AI models will support in-country inference in India via Amazon Bedrock in the coming weeks. This deployment allows requests sent through India-based endpoints to be processed on domestic servers, ensuring data localization, audit trails, and access controls. The move specifically targets highly regulated sectors, including banking, insurance, telecommunications, and public administration, where data sovereignty is required to move AI from pilot programs into production systems.

This expansion follows the opening of an Anthropic office in Bengaluru in February 2026. To support the rollout, the company is implementing a partner certification program to train 5,000 people. Major Indian enterprises have already integrated the technology; Tata Consultancy Services plans to equip 50,000 employees with the model, and Infosys has established a dedicated Anthropic Center of Excellence. Other early adopters include the National Payments Corporation of India.

Beyond enterprise use, the initiative supports public impact projects, such as digital agriculture via Digital Green and antivenom research at the Indian Institute of Science. Anthropic is also partnering with Karya to improve Claude's performance in Indian languages and has made commitments under the New Delhi Frontier AI Impact Commitments.
