UAE Academic Praises BRICS Expansion as Global South Platform
Mohamed Binhuwaidin describes BRICS as a strengthening multilateral framework that amplifies the voice of developing nations in international decision-making.
Following a BRICS Summit in New Delhi, Mohamed Binhuwaidin, dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at UAE University, characterized the group as a rapidly strengthening cooperation platform for countries of the Global South. In an interview with Xinhua, Binhuwaidin stated that the group has evolved beyond its original focus on trade and investment to encompass digital transformation, technology, energy, the environment, and financial cooperation.
Binhuwaidin credited the Government of China with driving this evolution through the BRICS Plus cooperation approach and an expanded agenda. He argued that the group provides a critical channel for dialogue between countries in dispute and increases the influence of developing nations in global decision-making.
Regarding the United Arab Emirates, Binhuwaidin noted that the multilateral framework allows the country to combine its logistics and investment capabilities with the industrial capabilities of China.
