FCC Grants Intel Waiver for Foreign-Made Robotics Ban

The Federal Communications Commission granted Intel a one-year waiver to continue using foreign-made automated guided vehicles in its semiconductor facilities.

The Federal Communications Commission granted a one-year waiver to Intel on October 22, 2026, exempting the company from a ban on certain foreign-made advanced robotics. The waiver allows Intel to maintain software, firmware, and hardware for its Automated Guided Vehicles, which have transported materials within its semiconductor facilities for over 20 years.

Intel petitioned for the exemption, arguing that a lack of proven domestic alternatives would make replacing the vehicles a multi-year process. The company stated that such a transition would cause "potential disruptions in the availability of domestic semiconductor manufacturing services for Intel’s customers."

This regulatory relief follows a July FCC ban on the import of new Chinese humanoid and quadruped robots, as well as connected power inverters. The commission implemented those restrictions to protect U.S. AI infrastructure from national security threats and to reshore critical industries.
