High-Dividend S&P 500 Stocks Outperform Amid AI Volatility
Investors are shifting toward high-dividend S&P 500 stocks as a safe haven from volatility in artificial-intelligence trades during October 2026.
High-dividend stocks within the S&P 500 are outperforming the broader market in October 2026. This trend comes as investors move toward safer assets to hedge against volatility in artificial-intelligence trades.
Analysis using data from FactSet identified 11 companies with dividend yields of at least 5.00% and estimated free-cash-flow headroom of at least 2.00%, indicating the payouts are well-supported. VICI Properties leads the group with a 7.82% yield, followed by other major firms including Verizon Communications, Pfizer, and Ford Motor.
While dividend-focused ETFs such as the iShares Core High Dividend ETF and Schwab U.S. Dividend Equity ETF have reported strong short-term returns, the market remains mixed. Half of the identified high-yield stocks have seen their share prices decline throughout 2026. This suggests the presence of value traps, where high yields are a byproduct of falling stock prices rather than fundamental company strength.
