Yemeni Forces Down Saudi Drone Amid Red Sea Offensive

The Yemeni Military shot down a Saudi Wing Loong II armed reconnaissance drone over the port city of Mocha on Wednesday. Military spokesperson Yahya Saree stated the drone was carrying out "hostile missions" when it was intercepted. This incident occurs as the Government of Saudi Arabia intensified airstrikes and missile attacks across western, southwestern, and northern Yemen, targeting telecommunications towers in Al Marawi'ah and Al-Qati', a radio station in Bajil, and districts in Saada province.

Casualty reports from the September 23 strikes vary, with some sources reporting 10 deaths and 14 injuries in Taiz and Al-Jawf, while others specify at least two deaths and four injuries in Hodeidah. These developments follow a period of heavy bombardment, with Yemen reporting 760 Saudi airstrikes as of September 20.

Since September 10, Yemeni forces have executed a counteroffensive along the Red Sea coast, capturing Mocha and seizing approximately 5,400 square kilometers across six districts in Ta'iz and Hudaydah. The offensive included the seizure of strategic islands in the Bab el-Mandeb strait, such as Mayyun. Yemeni forces describe these actions as a "siege for siege" response to a decade of Saudi-led war and blockade. Simultaneously, reports indicate Yemeni missile and drone attacks caused explosions in Riyadh, forcing the temporary suspension of operations at Riyadh International Airport.
