Himanta Biswa Sarma Urges Global Investment in Assam

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma invited global investors to Assam during the ICC Global Business Summit, highlighting semiconductor projects and renewable energy targets.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma invited the global business community to invest in Assam during the second edition of the ICC Global Business Summit in New Delhi. Sarma described the state as steadily emerging as a hub of connectivity, enterprise and opportunity, citing its strategic location and a single-window clearance system that has processed over 2.5 million approvals.

Economic projections for the state show a nominal GSDP estimated at Rs 7.45 lakh crore for 2025-26, rising to a projected Rs 8.71 lakh crore for 2026-27. A major industrial anchor for this growth is a Rs 27,000-crore semiconductor assembly and test facility being developed by Tata Electronics, which is expected to commission in December 2026.

Beyond electronics, the state is pursuing a green energy transition. The government is targeting 6,000 MW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 and expanding industrial opportunities in bamboo-based ethanol and green hydrogen.
