Maruti Suzuki Hits 1 Million Unit Capacity at Gujarat Plant

Maruti Suzuki India Limited began commercial production at its Hansalpur Plant D, making it the first Suzuki facility globally to reach 1 million annual units.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited commenced commercial production at Plant D of its Hansalpur facility in Gujarat on July 30, 2026. The new plant adds an annual capacity of 250,000 units, raising the total capacity of the Hansalpur site from 750,000 to 1 million vehicles per annum. This milestone marks the first time in the history of the Suzuki group that a single manufacturing facility has reached a 1 million-unit capacity, establishing it as the largest passenger vehicle manufacturing complex at a single location in India.

The company invested approximately ₹3,900 crore in Plant D, bringing the cumulative investment at the 640-acre Hansalpur site to ₹25,288.7 crore. The new facility will initially produce the e Vitara, the company's flagship battery electric vehicle. This expansion increases Maruti Suzuki's total Indian manufacturing capacity to 2.9 million units annually across its Gujarat and Haryana operations.

Hansalpur serves as a critical export hub, accounting for nearly 47% of the company's overseas shipments in FY2025-26. The expansion is part of a larger strategic goal to reach an annual production of 4 million units in India through the combined output of the Hansalpur site and an upcoming facility in Sanand.
