India Rolls Out 60,000 Crore PM-SETU ITI Modernization Scheme

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship approved the nationwide rollout of the PM-SETU scheme to modernize 1,000 Industrial Training Institutes across India.

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship approved the nationwide rollout of the Pradhan Mantri Skilling and Employability Transformation through Upgraded ITIs (PM-SETU) scheme on July 7, 2026. Transitioning from a pilot phase to pan-India implementation, the flagship program carries a 60,000 crore budget intended to transform 1,000 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) into industry-aligned skill centers.

During the fourth meeting of the National Steering Committee, chaired by Secretary Debashree Mukherjee, the ministry cleared five Strategic Investment Plans totaling 1,237.58 crore to modernize 200 identified ITI clusters. These investments include 240.21 crore for the Barbil cluster in Odisha via Jindal Naveen Avasar and 240.18 crore for the Surat cluster in Gujarat via ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India. In Telangana, approximately 757 crore was approved for three clusters—Old City, Patancheru, and Sangareddy—led by Apollo Medskills, Siddharth Infratech & Services, and Neuland Foundation.

Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Jayant Chaudhary called for more industry leadership to transform these institutes into world-class facilities to improve employability outcomes through future-ready curricula and upgraded infrastructure.
