Honda Unveils 2027 Civic Type R with Tech Upgrades

Honda announced the 2027 Civic Type R featuring updated aerodynamics, interior technology, and a starting price of approximately $48,695 for the United States market.

Honda Motor Company announced the 2027 Civic Type R, a mid-cycle refresh marking the 30th anniversary of the nameplate. The vehicle arrives at United States dealerships in October 2026 with a starting price of $48,695, though some reports indicate a higher price of $49,990 depending on destination fees.

The updated hot hatch retains its 315-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, produced at the Anna Engine Plant in Ohio, and continues to offer only a six-speed manual transmission. Mechanical refinements include a yoke spring in the brake pedal for improved feel, a faster rev-match system for downshifts, and optimized suspension damping in +R mode to reduce harshness and increase stability.

Exterior changes feature a more aggressive front fascia with a larger grille and a deeper splitter to enhance cooling and downforce. Inside, the model introduces heated front sport seats for the first time, Ultrasuede trim, and an expanded technology suite featuring Google Gemini and built-in Alexa. Safety updates include post-collision braking and an enhanced Honda Sensing suite.

While the model debuts in the United States, it will not be sold in Europe due to strict emissions regulations. Honda also indicated that a future high-performance production version based on the HRC Concept is planned.
