El-Sisi Inaugurates World's Largest Defense Headquarters in New Capital
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi inaugurated the Octagon, a massive AI-powered strategic command center in Egypt's New Administrative Capital designed to integrate all military and government planning.
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi inaugurated the State Strategic Command Headquarters, known as the Octagon, on July 4, 2026, in Egypt's New Administrative Capital. Described as a strategic brain for the state, the facility is reportedly the largest defense ministry building in the world, surpassing the U.S. Pentagon. The complex spans approximately 90 square kilometers and features eight interconnected octagonal buildings across 13 strategic and logistical zones.
The facility integrates AI-powered data analysis, satellite intelligence, and C4I systems to manage big data and protect against fourth- and fifth-generation cyber warfare. Built with protective engineering to withstand aerial attacks, the project aims to centralize administrative operations and unify crisis management across Egypt's governorates. The construction was carried out by Egyptian Armed Forces personnel and national companies as part of a broader transition of sovereign institutions to the new capital.
During the ceremony, El-Sisi appeared in military uniform for the first time in over a decade. While he framed the headquarters as a monument to stability and a tool for confronting challenges, the project's estimated cost of 50 billion euros ($57 billion) comes amid a severe national economic crisis and significant foreign debt. El-Sisi stated that the facility is proof of the will of a nation that knows nothing of the impossible, while emphasizing that Egypt remains committed to peace for those who seek it.
