India and Mauritius Sign Long-Term Energy Supply Agreements

India and Mauritius strengthened energy ties through a government memorandum and a fuel supply deal to protect Mauritius from price volatility.

Hardeep Singh Puri, India's Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister, visited Mauritius from August 20-22 to expand energy cooperation. During meetings with Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam, the two nations exchanged a Government-to-Government Memorandum of Understanding focused on oil and gas cooperation.

To mitigate the impact of price volatility, the Indian Oil Corporation and the State Trading Corporation of Mauritius signed a separate agreement. This deal ensures the long-term supply of aviation turbine fuel, marine gas oil, diesel, and petrol to the island nation.

Beyond energy, Mauritius President Dharambeer Gokhool and Indian High Commissioner Anurag Srivastava marked the 80th Independence Day of Mauritius. The celebrations highlighted a $680 million Special Economic Package and the development of upcoming joint projects, including an e-judiciary and a joint satellite.
