Liechtenstein Cyberattack Exposes Data of 31,000 Individuals

The government of Liechtenstein announced that a major cyberattack targeted its register of beneficial owners, a database specifically used to combat terror financing and money laundering. The breach occurred between Wednesday and Thursday of the previous week, resulting in the theft of personal data belonging to approximately 31,000 individuals.

Authorities discovered the breach on Thursday and immediately took the system offline to prevent further unauthorized access. Government officials stated there are currently no indications that any stolen data was altered or deleted during the incident.

In response to the breach, the principality established a crisis unit to investigate the attack. The team is led by Prime Minister Brigitte Haas and Justice Minister Emanuel Schädler.
