Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing to Visit Vietnam

President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Min Aung Hlaing and his spouse will conduct an official visit to Vietnam from September 4 to 6. Invited by President and Communist Party General Secretary Tô Lâm, Min Aung Hlaing is scheduled to meet with Tô Lâm, Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính, and National Assembly President Trần Thanh Mẫn.

The itinerary includes a business forum and meetings with economic organizations to advance cooperation in agriculture, information technology, infrastructure, and digital transformation. This diplomatic engagement follows a visit to Myanmar on August 26 by Vietnamese Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung, who pledged continued support for Myanmar within ASEAN and at the United Nations.

The visit is part of a strategic effort by Min Aung Hlaing to normalize relations with Southeast Asian neighbors and secure international legitimacy for his administration following the 2021 coup. Despite increased engagement from some neighbors, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations continues to exclude Myanmar's political representatives from summits because the administration has failed to implement the Five-Point Consensus peace plan.
