Aliko Dangote Plans Public Listings for African Conglomerate
Aliko Dangote announced plans to open all Dangote Group companies to public ownership to democratize wealth across Africa, including a Kenyan refinery listing.
Aliko Dangote, president and CEO of Dangote Industries Limited, announced plans to eventually transition all companies operated by the Dangote Group to public ownership. Speaking at an investor engagement event in Nairobi, Dangote stated the goal is to democratize wealth making for Africans rather than simply raising capital.
As part of this strategy, Dangote declared that the Dangote East Africa Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals in Lamu, Kenya, should be listed on the Kenyan market once it matures for public ownership. He also noted that the group's expanding shipping business and fertilizer operations will eventually be taken to the capital market.
These initiatives coincide with a broader effort to integrate African capital markets. The Capital Markets Authority of Kenya and the Securities and Exchange Commission of Nigeria, along with other African regulators, signed a Memorandum of Understanding to facilitate cross-border investment and trading.
