China Memory Chipmaker CXMT IPO Oversubscribed 570 Times
CXMT Corp attracted 1.24 trillion shares in subscriptions for its $8.6 billion IPO, the largest in Asia this year.
CXMT Corp, China's leading memory chipmaker, announced that institutional investors subscribed for 1.24 trillion shares in its $8.6 billion initial public offering. This level of demand oversubscribed the 2.17 billion available shares by approximately 570 times. While the IPO is the largest in Asia this year, the subscription rate is significantly lower than recent tech debuts on Shanghai's STAR Market, such as those by Zhuhai Trinomab Pharmaceutical Co and Chongqing Genori Technology Co, which saw oversubscriptions exceed 5,000 times.
This reduced investor fervor follows a global chip stock selloff and a 25% decline in the STAR Market since July 1. Despite this caution, the offering supports the Government of China's strategic goal of achieving technological self-sufficiency to compete with the United States.
CXMT has not officially disclosed a listing date, though sources indicate the stock will debut on July 27.
