Israeli Military Conducts Shelling and Incursions in Southern Syria
The Israeli military shelled Daraa province and launched a ground incursion in Quneitra province amid rising tensions following the fall of the Assad regime.
The Israeli military shelled the outskirts of Abidin village in western Daraa province and conducted a ground incursion in southern Quneitra province on October 3 and 4, 2026. During the operation west of Sayda al-Hanout village, Israeli forces used two tanks and other military vehicles to fire toward residential neighborhoods. No immediate casualties or material damage were reported from the shelling in Abidin, though the area was targeted repeatedly throughout September.
These operations follow a period of intensified Israeli military activity in Syria since the collapse of the Bashar al-Assad regime in late 2024. Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa recently detailed the scale of these activities during the 81st UN General Assembly. Al-Sharaa stated that Israel has carried out approximately 500 airstrikes and artillery attacks, more than 1,200 incursions, and roughly 300 detentions within Syrian territory since late 2024.
