Ukraine Drone Strikes Disrupt Russian Data Centers and Government Services
Ukraine launched drone attacks throughout October 2026 targeting Russian data centers, disrupting banking, tax databases, and essential digital infrastructure across multiple regions.
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine executed a series of drone attacks throughout October 2026 targeting critical Russian data centers. The campaign disrupted essential digital services and government infrastructure, culminating in a strike on a Federal Tax Service data center in Gorodets, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, on the night of October 23.
Targets included facilities operated by Yandex in the Ryazan, Kaluga, and Vladimir regions, a Sberbank data center in the Saratov region, and a VKontakte facility in St. Petersburg. These strikes impacted state registries and tax databases, causing widespread failures in taxi bookings, online orders, banking services, and the judicial system. Some arbitration court hearings were postponed as a result of the outages.
Technical experts indicate that the damage to high-end chips and computing infrastructure used for artificial intelligence research may take months to repair. This recovery timeline is attributed to existing global technology supply restrictions imposed on Russia.
