Home Bargains Closes All UK Stores for Three Holidays

Home Bargains will close all of its UK stores for three days during the upcoming holiday season. The discount retailer will shut its doors on December 25, December 26, and January 1. This decision prevents shoppers from visiting on Boxing Day, which is traditionally one of the busiest retail days of the year and a primary date for competitor post-Christmas sales.

The closures affect more than 600 locations nationwide, including 12 branches in Essex, 19 stores across Cheshire, and six branches in Bolton. Specific affected sites include stores at Lakeside Retail Park, Chelmsford Riverside Retail Park, Botley Road in Oxford, and Banbury Cross Retail Park. The company has not yet confirmed opening hours for Christmas Eve, December 27, New Year's Eve, or January 2.

This move follows a similar closure schedule implemented in 2025 to provide the company's 28,000 employees additional time to spend with family and friends. The Liverpool-headquartered retailer continues to see growth, with revenue increasing 7.9% to £4.5bn in its most recent full financial year.
