Saskatchewan NDP Criticizes Government Over AI Data Centre Transparency

The Saskatchewan New Democratic Party held an open house in Moose Jaw on Tuesday to address public concerns over hyperscale AI data centre projects. NDP leader Carla Beck and MLAs Brittney Senger and Aleana Young criticized the provincial government for a lack of accountability regarding a proposed $485-million project by Aztec AI Health Ltd. and an existing Bell AI Data Centre project in the RM of Sherwood.

NDP representatives questioned whether environmental impact assessments were conducted for the Sherwood project and urged Premier Scott Moe to provide clearer answers to the public. Aleana Young argued that the government failed to follow its own laws and regulatory processes, while Carla Beck suggested the province follow Alberta's example by holding town halls to gather feedback.

The Government of Saskatchewan has denied that the Aztec AI Health Ltd. project is proceeding, stating that a request for 150 megawatts of power was denied. Minister of Justice Tim McLeod dismissed the NDP's concerns as speculation and hypothetical scenarios, asserting that no application is currently before the government for the Moose Jaw project.
