Spain Increases Entry Funds and Turkey Bans Beach Smoking

Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has increased the financial requirements for non-EU visitors, including British nationals, following updates to the country's minimum wage. Travelers must now prove they possess a minimum of €122.10 per person per day, with a total minimum requirement of €1,089.90. Acceptable proof includes cash, traveler's cheques, or credit cards accompanied by bank statements, though the ministry explicitly stated that online bank statements and bank letters are not accepted. Failure to meet these standards may result in denied entry at the border.

Separately, authorities in Antalya, Turkey, implemented a smoking ban on June 5 across select beaches, including Lara, Belek, Çamyuva, and Beach Park. The measure is part of the Blue Mediterranean Initiative aimed at protecting marine ecosystems from pollution. Violators currently face fines of 1,764 Turkish Lira, though proposed laws may increase this penalty to 5,000 lira.

Further travel changes are expected later in 2026 with the launch of the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS). This system will require most visa-exempt adults entering 30 European countries to pay a €20 fee.
