Tom Tiffany Faces Criticism Over Iran War Voting Record

Tom Tiffany, the Republican nominee for Wisconsin governor, is facing criticism over contradictions between his public statements and his legislative record. While Tiffany has stated that the Iranian conflict should end as soon as possible, records show he has voted five times to continue the war effort and twice against the War Powers Resolution. When questioned by a reporter on these discrepancies, Tiffany denied voting against ending the war.

Tiffany also faces scrutiny over his position on gas prices. He told PBS Wisconsin that a governor has little to no effect on fuel costs because they are largely set by world markets. However, this position contradicts his adoption of a policy proposed by Democratic nominee David Crowley to repeal the state's minimum mark-up law in an effort to lower costs for consumers.

Attributing high gas prices to instability in the Middle East and actions by the Revolutionary Guard in the Strait of Hormuz, Tiffany argued that the United States must achieve energy independence. He maintained that his primary focus remains on the specific issues a governor can actually influence to help citizens.
