Cortex DC and SK Hyper Launch Massive AI Data Center Projects
Cortex DC and SK Hyper announced large-scale AI data center expansions in India and South Korea to meet rising global high-performance computing demands.
Major infrastructure projects are expanding AI compute capacity across Asia. Cortex DC, a subsidiary of The Chatterjee Group, announced plans to develop 2 GW of AI-ready data center capacity across India. The company aims to have its first facility operational within 18 months of breaking ground and has committed to sourcing 51 percent of its energy from green sources to support local and international customers.
Simultaneously, SK Hyper, the data center arm of SK Group, is negotiating with big tech firms and financial investors to fund a larger initiative in South Korea. Chief Executive Officer Chung Suk-geun announced a goal to develop 15 GW of capacity by 2035. The first phase of this buildout, totaling 5 GW, carries an estimated cost of $350 billion including equipment.
These developments follow a global surge in AI infrastructure deployment. While Cortex DC focuses on establishing India as a premier global hub for compute workloads, SK Hyper's project proceeds despite broader industry concerns regarding the long-term sustainability of AI demand.
