Minneapolis Air Traffic Outage Causes Nationwide Flight Disruptions

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating a telecommunications failure at a Minneapolis control center that triggered nationwide flight delays and cancellations.

A telecommunications failure at the Minneapolis Air Route Traffic Control Center on Thursday evening triggered widespread air travel disruptions across the United States. The outage briefly disabled radar and radio communications, forcing a temporary ground stop across a large section of Midwest airspace.

While the Federal Aviation Administration restored service, the incident created a domino effect that impacted airports nationwide. Raleigh-Durham International Airport reported more than 20 cancellations and numerous delays by Friday morning. These travel disruptions were further compounded by severe weather moving through central North Carolina.

The Federal Aviation Administration is currently investigating the cause of the telecommunications issue to prevent future outages.
